The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was established in the year 1986. This Department has all the necessary to carve a successful Computer Engineer of an international standard. The department develops the software for the Examination, Admission, Alumni, Attendance, and Library with the help of its eminent faculty members and students.

The Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) of the Department of Computer Engineering are given below:
| PEO 1 | Identify, analyze and solve problems in Computer Engineering by using the knowledge in the advanced technologies. |
| PEO 2 | Assemble the computer system, Troubleshoot, Service and Maintenance, Computer Networking, Programming, Database Administrator and to pursue their higher studies to succeed in their Profession. |
| PEO 3 | Function productively and professionally possess critical thinking, communication skills, Team work, Leadership skills and Ethical behaviour. |
| PEO 4 | Become recognized Professional Engineers with demonstrated commitment to Life-Long Learning and continuous self-improvement in order to respond to the rapid changes in Computer Engineering. |
| PSO1 | Ability to use the basic knowledge of mathematics and fundamental concepts of Computer Hardware, Networking and Software for a productive career as well as the needs of the industry concerns by the students. |
| PSO2 | Ability to solve the problems in Computer Hardware, Networking, basic design of the Computer Networking by using various tools and technologies and also Software Programming in various languages. |

The Department provides Lab resources for Education. In this Department 60 Systems are available with licensed software and printers for all Practical. High Speed Internet access is available for all staffs and students to update their knowledge.
Laboratory Facilities
The Department is well equipped with 3 Laboratories including for the Diploma students installed with a variety of software catering to the needs of the students and covering the curriculum specified in the Syllabus.
Electronics and Computer Hardware Lab
The Electronics lab is equipped with various equipment's like Digital Trainer Kit, CRO, Ammeter, Voltmeter, which help the students to get a hands on training related to their syllabus.

Hardware and Networking Lab is equipped with computers and networking devices which help the students to gain basic knowledge of Hardware and Networking.

IFHRMS Training Program
Department of Computer Engineering in association with Treasury Department organised a Training program "IFHRMS" for 40 members of Treasury department at Murugappa Polytechnic College on 10-07-2018 . Thiru M.Balamurugan, Treasury Officer Thruvallur treasury, Principal Dr.K Sudhagar were present at the inauguration Program.

Department of Computer Engineering conducted a training program "Basics of Computer Application" for 45 candidates of Tamilnadu Special Police 2nd Battalion, Avadi on 09-05-2019.
